History of Earth Day

On January 28th, 1969, a well drilled by Union Oil Platform A off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, blew out. More than three million gallons of oil spewed, killing over 10,000 seabirds, dolphins, seals, and sea lions. As a reaction to this natural disaster, activists were mobilized to create environmental regulation, environmental education, and Earth Day. – Wiki

Hence why Santa Barbara hosted the first Earth Day Festival and continues to lead the way.

Now in its 48th year, this year’s festival will take place April 21-22, 2018 at Alameda Park.

Santa Barbara is home to the first ever Earth Day Festival which started after a devastating oil spill which initiated the Environmental Movement. This Free 2 day Festival continues on every year.
